It's been almost a year since my last post! To be honest, I was afraid of getting too personal on a blog. But I really need an outlet for my thoughts and photos. It's time to come out of my shell!
I got married! (in November, last year lol)
My husband and I wanted to elope. My family live in California and his in the Netherlands. We weren't even sure if his family would be able to attend because of hectic work schedules. The plan was to elope in Santa Barbara and then have a small dinner reception in Los Angeles with my closest friends and family, before moving to the Netherlands. A good-bye dinner of sorts.
After lots of research, I found that planning a private dinner for 40+ people isn't easy. Especially when my parents suddenly had demands for "their only daughters wedding." I was never the type of girl that had her dream wedding planned out. Honestly, I didn't understand what the fuss was about. But my parents clearly had high hopes for the day. If I gave into all their wishes, I would have gotten married on a yacht, arriving in a giant limo, wearing a ball gown with a huge tiara. I'm their princess.
We decided to meet in the middle and have a small dinner at Il Cielo, Beverly Hills. The venue rental included a wedding ceremony with the dinner so my dad was extremely happy. He always dreamed of walking me down the aisle one day. He's sweet~! My husbands family was also able to fly over for the event so it all worked out in the end!
We still went up to Santa Barbara to get legally married and take photos, like we planned. But in hindsight, I'm really glad my parents demanded another small ceremony and reception. I often find myself remenissing of how happy they looked that day =)
